Kristen Stewart did not disappoint at the NYC premiere of her new film, The Runaways on Mar. 17. Although she didn’t opt for her character Joan Jett’s signature smoky eye, she did go for a gorgeous bright pink lip. “Her dress was quite strong so we didn’t want to do anything too severe,” says her makeup artist Beau Nelson. “Last night I wanted to do something that was a little more pretty, something with some color.” Beau promises this bright rose hue would look great on most skin tones.
Here’s how Beau got Kristen’s look!
Beau used a dual-purpose lip and cheek stain from Beaute in Harlot to get Kristen’s bright rose lip and flushed cheeks. A stain “keeps the lip strong but not lined looking, it isnt a lipstick-y feel so you can see the lip texture and its not shiny,” Beau says.
“When you do something that’s a little more matte on the lips, you want to keep the skin a little more modern looking,” Beau says. He used a sheer tinted moisturizer and a bit of concealer.
“I contoured her cheeks with Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder under the cheekbones, a little at the temples and under the jaw line,” Beau says. “It has the effect of framing the face and giving your face and bones more definition. It can also make you look like you’ve lost a little bit of weight because your face is a little more defined,” he adds.
“On the eyes I used Mac eye shadow in Concrete, it’s a matte, grayish brown. Then, I used a small fluffy brush to dust Mac eye shadow in Electra on top to give it dimension,” Beau says. “When you put a matte down then a metallic shade on top, you get almost a duo chrome effect. It kind of looks dewy,” he says.
“We used a black cream liner inside the rim of her eyes,” Beau says. “Kristen really likes that. Cream liners tend to stay longer than a pencil would.” He finished off her eyes with Kanebo Sensai 38C mascara.
To balance out her strong lip, Beau defined her brows more than usual but “without going overboard,” he says.
